The mission of Homeowners for the Homeless Veterans Organization is to augment the programs established by National Veterans Service organizations. The emphasis being to provide additional funds that support: emergency financial assistance, education scholarships, medical and temporary housing for those seeking treatment for PTSD and TBI and efforts to eliminate or prevent homelessness in our veteran population. Funds raised by our foundation will be distributed in the form of grants to organizations with existing programs that provide direct aid to needy/homeless veterans and their families. Our goal in establishing this mission is to provide additional financial resources and direct those funds to specific veteran needs.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How is the money/assistance distributed to the targeted veterans across America?
(a) The funds raised by Homeowners for the Homeless Veterans Organization will be distributed through a grant process. Specific procedures are being developed by our Board of Directors that define parameters that must be met by groups/organizations making grant requests. The Board of Directors meet during the first month of each quarter of the calendar year to review and evaluate grant requests in order to allocate the funds available to qualified organizations with established programs providing direct aid to needy/homeless veterans and their families.
2. How will we know how much, if any funds will be going towards our homeless vets?
(a) A quarterly report listing approved grant requests will be posted on our website and made available to anyone requesting it.
3. Who distributes the funds? In each state.
(a) Once a grant has been reviewed by the Board of Directors and approval has been granted, a check for the grant amount will be delivered to the requesting organization/group. The individual organization/group will then be in control of the management of the grant monies. Grant requests will be open to organizations/groups across the country having existing programs providing direct assistance to needy/homeless veterans and their families. That is why it is so important that the grant procedures established by the Board provide for adequately vetting the groups/organizations requesting grants.
4. How would the funds be distributed? Is it by the estimated number of homeless in each state?
(a) The funds generated by Homeowners for the Homeless Veterans will be distributed through a grant process managed by our Board of Directors. The Board will meet the first month of each quarter in a calendar year to review grant requests. Since it would be impossible for our Board of Directors to interview and evaluate individual veterans and their families across the country, they rely upon organizations/groups with established programs providing direct aid/assistance to needy/homeless veterans and their families. The distribution of funds will be based upon the grant requests we receive and funds available.
5. The “problem” of homeless veterans has been addressed for many years by many “groups” with poor success. Why is this “program” going to be different?
(a) Homeowners for the Homeless Veterans Organization is well aware of the serious situations surrounding homeless veterans and their families. We know that there are many worthwhile groups working to prevent and end homelessness in the veteran population, and we understand the enormity of the problem. We also understand that throwing money at this problem is not the ultimate solution to ending homelessness, since just as there are many causes for homelessness, there are many opportunities for solutions. However, we do believe that lack of funding is a serious issue for many worthwhile groups/organizations that limits their ability to be successful, and we hope that by helping to provide funding to worthwhile programs operated by established veteran service providers we can have an impact on this critical issue.
